Antonio Manzanedo - demon in the mist

The group ventured to the edge of the cavern where a large tunnel led to another cavern.  As they approached cautiously, the could feel a heaviness in the air as a low mist began to cover the ground.

Entering the next cavern, this creature awaited.  Nearly twice the size of the balor they have seen before, the group is a bit concerned.

A Little Bit of History (in progress)

They had arrived at a town on the edge of Diamond Lake having heard of the need to investigate the strange weather in the region - cold temperatures and snow in late spring.  Rumor was a mage had taken up residence in what was known as Draigdurroch Tower.  About four weeks ago many figures were seen on the road heading towards the tower late at night.  Soon after, the strange weather began, spreading to the point that it was threatening crops in the area.

Earlier...

The group explored the Whispering Cairn.  The entrance sloped down to a long hallway which ended in a somewhat round room with four alcoves.  Stepping in a shaft resulted in the floor slowly sinking down, much like an elevator.

Nightshade went down one elevator and discovered as she went down that the shaft was flooded.  She was attacked by a water elemental which caused her some concern but was not truly a threat and she defeated it quickly.

Gary and Goth headed down another elevator, which led them to a large open room that appeared to be a barracks.  The beds had broken down form age years ago and there was nothing of any value remaining save for some rusty weapons.  Towards what looked to be a common area and kitchen, there was a small fountain with a faucet dripping a goopy orange liquid.  Intrigued that something was working, Goth took a taste of the liquid which tasted like pumpkin.  Nothing happened other than he no longer felt hungry.  The two warriors promptly filled a water bottle of the orange liquid to share with the others.

The third elevator shaft that was explored led to a study and small library.  The many books and scrolls had been destroyed by age and the desk was in poor condition.  A search of the area revealed nothing of significance or value.

The fourth elevator took the group down a large room with paintings of seven different creatures that the group believed to be the seven Wind Dukes that created the Rod of Seven Parts.  At the end of the large room, there was a long dark hallway that sloped down.  Gary, not interested in the paintings, headed down the hallway ahead of the rest of the group. Partway down, he noticed a secret door but could not figure how to open it, so he called for the rogue's assistance.  The rogue went down to study the door while Gary continued down the ramp.

Finding nothing in the large room, the rest of the group started to head down the hallway.  About 40 feet down, the mage stepped on a tile and heard a click.  Everybody froze - a loud thump was heard and the wall at the top of the ramp opened.  A large boulder the size of the hallway launched from the opening and began to roll quickly towards the party.  Panic ensured as everyone began to run.

The rogue looked back and doubled his effort on opening the secret door - an anxious moment as his lock pick almost bent and broke but success!!  He didn't even bother to look and jumped in.

Gary, who was approaching the end of the ramp, saw that it turned to the left so that is where he went, out of danger.

However, the others were running, realizing that the boulder was moving quickly and gaining momentum.  They would not reach Gary's position in time and everyone desperately tried to figure out how to save themselves while running as fast as they could.  The sorcerer had a moment of inspiration and cast a wall of stone ahead but with an opening big enough for everyone to get through.  The boulder struck the wall and smashed through, barely slowing down but was it enough?  Joe threw a web across the hallway, hoping it might help.  Once again, the boulder broke through and barreled towards the fleeing adventurers.  Everyone made it to the end and turned the corner except one.   In the panic, the warrior stumbled and tripped to his knee - as he was getting up, the ball of skulls struck him, carrying him into the end wall.  SMASH!  The ball of skeletons broke apart into a pile of bones with the warrior very battered but amazingly alive.

As they traveled north, smoke was seen in the distance.  Getting closer, they could see a group of orcs pillaging the village and several buildings were on fire.  The orcs launched a volley of arrows to slow the adventurers and in response the wizard cast a wall of fire behind the archers, separating them from their companions.  Realizing the group had a spellcaster, many of the orcs retreated on horseback, leaving the archers behind.  Being on foot, the adventurers could not pursue but mopped up the archers.

The fires were put out and a search of the village uncovered only two survivors.  The two were in shock but anxious to get to the next village up north as they were concerned the orcs would head there next.  The village was abandoned and everyone got back on the road headed north.  Fortunately, about two hours later, it was obvious the orcs had taken a side trail and were not headed to the next village.  Upon arriving at the village, the two survivors spoke with the village elders and convinced them to pack up and head for the safety of Diamond Lake.  Once there, they could pool their meager resources and try to hire warriors to hunt down the orcs.

As evening was approaching, the group decided to rest and continue their journey the next morning.  Mid morning on their walk, a figure was seen coming from the east.  As there was really nowhere to hide in the grasslands, the group continued walking while keeping a watch.  After twenty minutes, they realized that the figure was huge, at least 200 feet tall, perhaps more - it was really big.  The party prepared themselves as the mechanical beast walked wobbly towards them.  It raised an arm, revealing a red palm and fired what would be best described as a fireball but oddly, it fell short and did less damage to the group than they had feared.  Gary, deciding he didn't want to wait to be shot at again, charged the construct and helped draw attention from the rest of the group.

While Gary took swings at the construct's ankles, others started climbing the creature and Nightshade flew up to its head.  Along its chest, small panels kept opening and bows would reach out, firing arrows at whatever targets were available.  The rogue finally gained entry through one of the panels and came face to face with a goblin.
