24 April 2020 Session
CAST:
After dealing with the bugbears, the group proceeded up a spiral set of stairs to the next level where they were greeted by a bored wizard with five giant crocodiles under his command. He did not want to deal with the visitors and left them to deal with the ferocious reptiles.
Stormwind teleported past the crocodiles to pursue the mage while the others commenced to battle the crocodiles. Marvolo released a fiery attack, engulfing the beasts, but they kept coming forward.
Above the group, an invisible attacker cast a fireball upon the group, not doing much harm but of cause for concern. The battle with the crocodiles went back and forth while at one point, Nightshade succumbed to a spell that put her to sleep. At last, one crocodile was killed, leaving only four of the difficult to kill monsters to deal with. Hera had joined Stormwind in pursuing the spellcaster into another room where a companion of the mage was also waiting. The two foes asked what the group was doing here. They were looking for Orox the One-Eye as he knew of the celestial. The mage and warrior said Orox was not available and had not been seen in weeks. The two were welcome to wait and have some cake, which the mage had been cutting into pieces.
The crocodile that had died changed form, back into a troll that proceeded to join the fray. Nightshade remained asleep as she was continually battered by the tail of a crocodile. Marvolo was also not doing well as he was in the grasp of a crocodile.
Stormwind went to check on the group to see how things were going while Hera waited for the mage to make some tea. Upon realizing things weren't going too well, Stormwind joined the fight. AAAAHH was affected by something that caused him the move slower and reduced his combat effectiveness.
Marvolo freed himself by teleporting out of the crocodile's mouth and the group began to turn the tide, killing crocodiles one by one. However, it wasn't over as the crocodiles slowly morphed into trolls which proceeded to commence the second wave of attacks. Despite being weary from the initial combat, the group trudged on and continued the battle. Despite all this commotion, Nightshade continued to sleep, taking the occasional nibble from a troll.
Marvolo, becoming slightly frustrated, lashed out a fiery attack and heavily damaged the trolls. It just left some mop up work for the others to finally eliminate the enemy.
The wizard and fighter sensed something and decidedly to leave the area.
The group successfully opened the giant metal door. The went up some stairs, found the emaciated body of Arithel. They managed to revive him by the transfer of his essence from Derek the Cleric. Yet the celestial was still missing a part of him in the giant Balor the group encountered earlier. Derek said they must return to help those of the White Flame and he looked at Arithel who nodded.
In a flash, the group returned to the large cavern where Derek had placed the Tesseract. They could hear the sounds of battle down the corridor where the minions of the Balor continued their battle with the members of the White Flame. Arithel stepped forward and called for the Balor to show himself.
The fight was on, with the Balor battling Arithel while our brave adventurers joined forces with the White Flame to deal with the evil followers of the Balor. After some tense moments, the Balor yieled and Arithel reclaimed the remainder of his essence, bringing him again to full power.
Arithel said they must retreat quickly as the Balor's enemies were coming as they knew he was weakened by the battle. Arithel thanked the group for his rescue and provided them with information on finding the next piece of the Rod of Law. He was sending them to a town named Nesme where they must make their way to the Dungeon of Ruins where a great evil was being held prisoner. The piece of the Rod was an essential element of the magic holding the evil there. Once the piece was removed, the evil would be released and it would be up to the party to defeat it.
Once again, there was a great flash and the group found themselves in a field facing a fairly active town. This was Nesme.
